International Affairs
The U.S. aerospace industry operates in a global marketplace. Over a third of all its production is exported, and foreign partners and suppliers are increasingly essential to the competitiveness of the industry. It is therefore critical that the U.S. promote a rules-based trading system in which the industry can compete and cooperate without prejudice, and that the U.S. government adopt export control and trade policies and processes that balance security and economic interests.
The International Affairs department also represents the views of its member companies to national and international media and key government agencies in the nation's capitol and overseas. The latter includes the United States Congress, the Departments of Defense, State and Commerce, the Export-Import Bank, and the United States Trade Representative. Overseas, AIA staff also work with counterpart associations in Europe, Japan, Canada, Brazil, and India.
